    Whether you are travelling by train, car or plane - travel bags with wheels are reliable companions that can look sporty or elegant. Wheeled travel bags belong to the category of softside luggage and are a hybrid of the classic trolley and wheelless travel bag. Most models have an oblong cut and are kept in a vertical format. Wheeled travel bags are pulled using a handle or a strap. Many variants are equipped with a removable carrying strap and can be worn over the shoulder. Sporty travel bags with wheels are usually made of robust, coated fabrics such as polyester or nylon. The so-called duffle bags are particularly popular. The main feature of these outdoor bags is the soft semi-circular shape. Elegant leather models and fabric travel bags with leather trimmings are a classic alternative. As leather travel bags are more suitable for business travellers, they often have an organizer compartment and a padded laptop sleeve.

    No matter if you prefer a leather travel bag with wheels or a duffle bag with wheels, besides materials, size is also an important factor when buying a bag. For weekend trips or short vacations, we recommend wheeled travel bags with a volume of 35 to 50 litres. They usually correspond to the hand luggage size and do not need to be checked in for a flight. Please note that cabin luggage sizes can vary from airline to airline. The standard dimensions are 55 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm. For air travel, it is also the weight that is relevant: the bag and its contents should normally not weigh more than 8 kg. Compared to hardside suitcases and trolleys with a reinforced back panel, travel bags with wheels are usually much lighter. A leather travel bag with wheels, however, is heavier than models made of polyester or other synthetic materials. Wheeled cabin luggage often has a trolley flap to attach to a larger suitcase on longer trips. For the annual leave or a two-week trip there are larger bags with a volume of 60 to 80 litres.     The biggest advantage of travel bags with wheels is their easy handling. With the help of an adjustable telescopic handle and smooth-running wheels, they can be pulled easily behind you. In front of barriers such as stairs or kerbstones, you can lift your bag with the additional (fabric) carrying handle. Besides the pull-out handle with fixing button and top carrying handle, larger models also have a handle on the side. A carrying handle on the front is typical for an outdoor travel bag. Many models trump with a handle on the bottom, which is placed between the wheels or in the middle. Some wheeled travel bags do not have a telescopic handle, they have a luggage strap. In most cases, this can be found on an outdoor travel bag. Fabric travel bags often use a completely retractable telescopic handle with a zipper cover.

    Two wheels are common for the most travel bags: they are usually embedded in the bottom, which gives the bag more stability. There are also models with three or four wheels. A travel bag with four wheels offers a crucial advantage – it can not only be pulled, but also pushed aside and turned around faster. Travel bags are equipped with either hard plastic or soft rubber wheels. The latter are low-noise and run better on slippery surfaces. A travel bag with 4 wheels usually has rubber rolls: they guarantee excellent maneuverability. A travel bag on four wheels also does not tip over so easily because the weight is equally distributed over the four support points. Another positive aspect of wheeled cabin luggage is its relatively low price. Wheeled travel bags usually cost less than comparable hardside luggage, but impress with lots of useful features.

    Comfort and security features

    In addition to established attributes such as an address tag, laundry compartment, packing straps, outside pockets and compression straps, many travel bags with wheels offer additional features for even more comfort. A travel bag with wheels for outdoor use usually comes with reflective inserts and stowable backpack straps. The retractable backpack straps are not only typical for a wheeled duffle, but also larger travel bags. A travel bag with wheels and backpack function is not only suitable for outdoor trips, but also for trips with multiple changes or with several transport methods. An alternative is a travel bag with wheels and a removable daypack. This can be easily attached and detached via a circumferential zipper and press-studs. A wheeled duffle with daisy chains or elastic lacing on the front is also practical – you can attach clothes and equipment to it. Textile travel bags with an integrated stretch pleat are a classic option for situational volume expansion. Outdoor versions often close with a two-way zipper. If it has extra eyelets, it can be secured with a separate padlock. Travel bags with a TSA lock make things even easier: they can be opened and closed again by the airport security staff – with a master key and without damage! Whether an outdoor travel bag or a classic leather model, many versions have a scan-proof RFID pocket and an integrated ID code for digital luggage tracking.

    Particularly robust travel bags with wheels trump with a corner, back and bottom reinforcements made of stable plastic. The bottom of most models has built-in feet. Some travel bags with wheels have plastic feet on the back so that you can put them down if you want to take something out on the go. A foldable travel bag with wheels usually has no feet. Its benefit: this model does not need much storage space, because it can be rolled up and kept compact. This is advantageous not only at home but also in a hotel room. To prevent a foldable travel bag with wheels from rolling apart, it is secured by carrying straps.
