After a bit of research I decided on the Ulvo 30 rolltop as my next travel companion.
The Fjallraven brand is already well proven in the toughest environments and is hard to beat in terms of build quality, materials and reliability. The backpack allows for quick packing with various size loads due to the rolltop and compression straps that also help to keep it stable when in use.
It's a basic pack, top loading with a laptop sleeve for urban use, but with limited internal compartmentation. There are well sized mesh side pouches and one small external zip pocket but a front pouch or elastic cord would have been a good addition. It sits very comfortably on the back throughout long trips, and has been out in the wettest (biblical) weather and the contents have remained dry. Overall, I highly recommned this if you want a simple, reliable travelling companion that won't let you down.
