The handbags of Matt & Nat have a timeless, simple design. Instead of following every trend, the brand remains true to its own unmistakable style, which manages to look modern and contemporary even after many years. With sophisticated designs, Matt & Nat creates practical bags that are resistent at the same time. Each model is extensively tested for quality and durability to ensure the handbags last as long as possible and are therefore less environmentally harmful. In addition, Matt & Nat encourages upcycling so used, but still intact bags don't end up in the garbage.

Matt & Nat's corporate values include to respect the humanity, individual creativity and positive energy of each individual and assuming social responsibility. For this reason, the company always seeks direct communication with its production sites and is committed to creating working conditions there that meet the SA8000 certification.
However, this is only part of Matt & Nat's sustainability objectives. Environmental protection was the central motive when the company was founded. The aim is to give something back to the earth through sustainable production. For this reason, Matt & Nat is always on the lookout for even more sustainable and ecological methods of producing bags. With every new season, the brand presents bags and accessories that even less burden flora and fauna. For example, since 2007 the inner lining of all bags has been made from recycled plastic bottles.
Due to the strict vegan orientation of the company, leather and other materials of animal origin are completely avoided in the production process. Instead, high-quality leather imitations made of polyurethane (PU) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are used. However, there are also collections that rely on cork, rubber, nylon or linen as outer material.
The name of the brand Matt & Nat does not go back to two founders with these names, but to an abbreviation of "material & nature". The founder Inder Bendi already tried to live vegan in the early 1990s, when this lifestyle was not yet modern and there were hardly any suitable products on the market. The idea for Matt & Nat came to him in 1995 during his studies at the University of Montreal. In a course on entrepreneurship he originally wasn’t very interested in, he had to work out a business plan and even try to get funding for it. Although he did not succeed in the latter and received only an average grade on his paper, he decided to drop his law studies and realize his plan to start Matt & Nat, a company that produces sustainable vegan bags.
In 2001 he teamed up with with today‘s owner and CEO Manny Kohli. Since then, Matt & Nat has become the largest label for vegan handbags, shoes and accessories, which are also worn by numerous celebrities such as Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, Tobey Maguire and Adrian Grenier. In order to freshen up the otherwise more classic look of the handbags, the brand engaged young designers from 2015 to bring new impulses to the bag range.
