The story of Mulberry began at a kitchen table in rural Somerset by the Saul family. In 1971 Roger Saul was given 500 pounds by his parents for his 21st birthday, from which he bought tools and materials and began to produce leather belts by hand. By 1975, bags were added and the family business had its big breakthrough. Even then, Mulberry bags were characterized by a unique combination of English tradition, skilful craftsmanship and elegant design. The famous Mulberry logo was designed by the sister of the company founder – as a tribute to family cohesion and love for nature. The brand developed several environmental projects and goals out of its connection to nature. Most Mulberry bags are made of ecologically certified leather and are produced in a climate-neutral way. Further steps towards sustainability include zero-waste production and the increased use of recycled materials.
