To account for frame thickness (and notebook thickness), you should also pay attention to the exact dimensions of the backpack. When stowing, make sure your laptop is snug but not too tight. Also pay attention to the empty weight of the selected model - the higher it is, the more sophisticated the carrying system has to be. Wide shoulder straps and a stabilizing chest strap are recommended in any case: Larger models often have a padded hip belt.
